Breadless® is a new Detroit and Ann Arbor local company represented by University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, Harvard Business School, and a top executive chef on a mission to help millions of people access healthy food options that are tasty, portable, low-carb, and gluten-free, quickly and conveniently. We are building the first black-owned healthy food enterprise.
Breadless® is a healthy dining alternative that provides delicious sandwiches, without the bread. Instead of bread, we wrap our sandwiches with a variety of fresh, nutrient dense, and locally sourced greens such as swiss chard, turnip greens, and collard greens. In addition to offering “customizable” premium ingredients wrapped in greens, Breadless has curated a celebrity-chef inspired menu that reflects the diversity of our customer base’s palette.
Breadless® exists because for 10 years, Marc struggled to find healthy, on-the-go food options that fit into his clean eating regimen. He had been eating low-carb and found that for him, working out daily and eliminating bread from his diet helped him to maintain his shape and left him feeling energized. Low-carb eating during breakfast and dinnertime had not been too difficult to accommodate; however, while working long hours in Corporate America, Marc found lunchtime and commuting a consistent dietary challenge. He did not have time to make his own lunches, and the options most widely available were high-carb sandwiches and wraps, as well as salads. Even salads were not always ideal because they were not very transportable; they required utensils, chopping or mixing, and sitting. Though some restaurants offer lettuce wrap/bun options today, it typically feels like the “special/adhoc order” and what you get back is sloppy, inconsistent, or simply tastes poorly. There was simply no existing restaurant that intentionally focused on wrapping sandwiches in nutritious, leafy greens. After becoming fed up with the lack of available options, Marc spoke with his then fiancée, LaTresha (LC), and affirmed that somebody needed to fix this problem and it might as well be him. With LC’s background in marketing and venture capital, she recognized that an opportunity was there and recommended to also connect with mutual friend and celebrity chef, Ryan, who also had a background in restaurant development and operations. The rest is Breadless®.
